My Colorado autumn trip was a little past peak for fall colors, but I found enough beautiful scenery to keep extremely busy. I started at the Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, and then moved to the Lake City area and explored the Matterhorn Basin amidst early season snow showers. I finished with a couple of days south of Aspen around the Castle Creek drainage. I was able to successfully climb Matterhorn Peak (13,590 feet) and Castle Peak (14,265 feet) during the week.
